There’s something incredibly special about photographing a younger sibling after photographing the older one years before. I had the joy of capturing Tyler’s big brother’s senior portraits, so seeing Mom and reconnecting with the family felt like the sweetest full-circle moment. Getting to be part of a family’s story as they grow is truly one of the greatest gifts of this job.
We began Tyler’s session at the beautiful Eagle Point Park in Dubuque. The rock formations, sweeping views, and rich fall color gave us the most natural, warm-toned backdrop. Tyler’s easygoing nature made this part of the session feel relaxed and effortless — a great start to the day.
Next, we headed downtown to meet Tyler’s furry best friend… and oh my goodness. Some of my favorite guy-and-dog portraits ever came from this moment. B was such a good boy — expressive, calm, and clearly in love with his human. The connection between the two of them was so genuine, it made these images extra special.
From there, we made our way to Historic Galena, which is pure magic in the fall. Something about the brick, the leaves, the texture, and the small-town charm feels like walking onto a movie set. Tyler’s wardrobe fit perfectly with the scenery — especially when he pulled out his suit and tie. I absolutely adore when senior guys bring a well-fitted suit, and Tyler looked downright dashing against Galena’s vintage architecture. Those portraits have a cinematic, timeless feel that I love.
Tyler, thank you — and thank you to your wonderful mom — for choosing me to capture this season of your life. Yours is a sweet, kind, grounded family, and it’s truly a blessing to be invited back as each new chapter unfolds. I’m grateful I get to be a small part of your journey.
